The Nikkei 225 index in Tokyo opened higher on Tuesday, gaining about 1.38%, with notable increases in Sony and Fast Retailing, which saw nearly 2% gains. Toyota Motor and Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group were up by nearly 1%. By the close, the Nikkei 225 was up 0.57% at 37,940.59. The rise in Tokyo stocks was attributed to optimism about the US economy and a weak yen. However, Nikkei futures later showed a decline of 0.56%.
