TSMC Delays Second Kumamoto Chip Plant Production to 2029

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. is pushing back the start of production at its second chip fabrication plant in Kumamoto, southern Japan, to the first half of 2029, according to a report in Japan’s Nikkan Kogyo cited by Taiwanese media. The postponement represents a delay of roughly a year and a half, attributed to construction setbacks. TSMC has previously said it still plans to break ground on the facility, but the new timeline means volume output will arrive later than initially expected as the company expands its manufacturing footprint outside Taiwan.
