Equity Group Holdings reported a record half-year profit after tax of KES 34.6 billion for the first half of 2025, up from KES 29.6 billion in 2024. The bank's net interest income increased by 9% to KES 59.3 billion, while total income rose 3% to KES 100.2 billion. Non-performing loans (NPL) ratio improved slightly to 13.7% from 14.0% in Q1 2025, with the highest NPL segment in corporate loans at 24.5% and Kenya recording the highest country NPL ratio at 20.0%. Equity Insurance Group saw gross written premiums more than double to KES 5.18 billion and profit before tax increase by 26% to KES 932 million. The Democratic Republic of Congo's contribution to Equity Group's profit before tax rose to 27.5%, reflecting regional diversification, while Kenya's share decreased to 55%. Absa Bank Kenya posted a 9% increase in profit after tax to KES 11.7 billion for H1 2025, with total income slightly down by 1.1% to KES 31.5 billion. Absa's net interest income declined 2.9% to KES 22.3 billion, but non-interest income rose 3.3% to KES 9.1 billion. The bank increased lending to the government by 86.2% while net loans fell 3.6%. Absa's loan impairments dropped 38% to KES 3.2 billion. KCB Group's half-year profit after tax grew 7.9% to KES 31.5 billion, supported by a 12.7% rise in net interest income to KES 69.1 billion and a 6.1% increase in loans and advances to KES 1.1 trillion. KCB's gross NPLs increased 4.2% to KES 221.1 billion, but the NPL ratio improved by 60 basis points to 18.7%. The bank declared a combined interim and special dividend payout of nearly KES 13 billion, the largest interim dividend in its history. Nation Media Group reported a half-year loss after tax of KES 41.7 million, an improvement from a loss of KES 260.2 million in 2024, on turnover of KES 3 billion, down 5.7%. Mutual Benefits Assurance Plc in Nigeria posted a half-year profit after tax of N11.59 billion, a 374% increase from N2.45 billion in the previous year. Kenya's motorcycle sales increased to an average of 7,000 units per month in 2025, up from 4,600 in 2024.
