Kenya's Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi have dismissed allegations that President William Ruto intends to rig the 2027 General Election, urging political leaders from both the opposition and Kenya Kwanza coalition to refrain from making reckless statements that could undermine public trust and incite unrest. The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has received four petitions seeking the recall of four Members of Parliament and is currently assessing the validity of these requests while preparing for potential by-elections. IEBC officials have outlined five key priorities ahead of the 2027 elections and warned politicians against making unfounded claims about election rigging. ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna has called on the IEBC and the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to summon political figures who have made statements suggesting plans to interfere with the electoral process, specifically urging action against MP Fatuma Jehow for remarks about vote manipulation favoring President Ruto. Meanwhile, allies of President Ruto have accused the opposition of fueling division and chaos, with Kindiki urging Kenyans to reject attempts to incite unrest. Mudavadi also criticized Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for allegedly exporting negative behavior abroad and contributing to tribal divisions. Both Kindiki and Mudavadi emphasized the importance of peace and stability, warning against a repeat of the post-election violence experienced in 2007. They also highlighted issues such as youth employment and housing as part of their campaign efforts to garner support for President Ruto ahead of the upcoming elections. The political alliance between President Ruto and opposition leader Raila Odinga is noted to be facing challenges amid these tensions.
