Kenyan President William Ruto used a development tour of Migori County on Thursday to warn the opposition that the next election will be fought on policy, not protest slogans. Addressing local leaders at the Sony Sugar Green Stadium, Ruto said calls such as “Ruto must go” will not sway voters in the 2027 poll, adding that Kenyans “want to know what plan you have for them.” Ruto highlighted improvements he says his administration has delivered since taking office. The Kenyan shilling, he noted, has strengthened to about KSh129 to the dollar from a peak of KSh165, while headline inflation has fallen to 4.1% from 9.6%. Fertiliser prices have dropped from roughly KSh7,000 to KSh2,500 per 50-kilogram bag after the government shifted subsidies to production. A digital farmer-registration drive now covers 6.5 million growers, and coffee prices have climbed to between KSh110 and KSh150 per kilogram from KSh60. The president also cited 76,000 teacher hires— with 24,000 more slated this month— and said 25 million citizens have enrolled in the new Social Health Authority, which makes outpatient care free at lower-level facilities. Road works worth KSh175 billion have resumed nationwide, while the Affordable Housing Programme has created 320,000 jobs, including a 300-unit scheme launched in Awendo. Ruto said these initiatives show his government’s focus on tangible development and urged critics to join, rather than derail, the economic agenda.
