Korean Air committed to buy 103 Boeing airplanes and related GE Aerospace engines and servicing in a package valued at about $50 billion, the airline and manufacturers said. The agreement was signed in Washington on Monday as South Korean President Lee Jae Myung met with U.S. President Donald Trump, underscoring closer commercial ties between the two countries amid ongoing tariff discussions. The purchase covers $36.2 billion for aircraft—including 50 737-10 single-aisle jets, 25 787-10 Dreamliners, 20 777-9 wide-bodies and eight 777-8 freighters—along with $690 million for 19 spare engines from GE Aerospace and CFM International. A separate $13 billion, 20-year maintenance contract with GE Aerospace was also signed. Deliveries are scheduled in phases through 2030. Korean Air said the record order will modernize its fleet, improve fuel efficiency and support its merger with Asiana Airlines. Boeing noted that the deal represents its largest wide-body order from an Asian carrier and is expected to sustain roughly 135,000 jobs across the United States. The transaction adds momentum to Boeing’s efforts to rebuild its backlog and provides the carrier with extra capacity for planned expansion in the Americas.
