Korean Air Lines said on Monday it has ordered 103 Boeing jets and related GE Aerospace engines and servicing in a package valued at about $50 billion, the largest aircraft purchase in the South Korean carrier’s history. The deal covers roughly $36.5 billion for Boeing aircraft—50 737-10 single-aisle jets, 25 787-10 wide-bodies, 20 777-9 long-range planes and eight 777-8 freighters—alongside a separate $13.7 billion agreement with GE for engines and long-term maintenance. Chief Executive Cho Won-tae said about 80 percent of the new airplanes will replace older models and aid the integration of Asiana Airlines, which Korean Air acquired last year. The order was announced in Washington as South Korean President Lee Jae Myung met President Donald Trump. U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick called the purchase a boost to American aerospace exports, while Boeing Commercial Airplanes chief Stephanie Pope said the new fleet would support Korean Air’s expansion into additional U.S. and Latin American routes. Deliveries are scheduled through the end of the decade.
