South Korea’s President Lee Announced That South Korean Shipbuilders Will Invest In And Recruit Employees In The United States 🚢🇺🇸
S. Korea’s President Lee: South Korean shipbuilders to invest and hire in the U.S.
South Korean President Lee Jae Myung pledged deeper participation by Korean shipbuilders in the United States during a visit to Hanwha Philly Shipyard in Philadelphia on Tuesday. The facility, purchased last year by Hanwha Ocean for roughly 140 billion won (about US$100 million), is the first U.S. yard owned by a South Korean company and a central element of Seoul’s “Make American Shipbuilding Great Again” initiative. Lee said the MASGA project would see Korean firms build and repair vessels, construct additional U.S. yards and train American workers, creating "win-win" growth for both nations’ maritime industries. His remarks followed a White House summit with President Donald Trump in which the two leaders agreed that Washington would buy Korean-built ships and seek broader cooperation to revitalize America’s diminished shipbuilding base. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, who joined Lee at the christening of the National Security Multi-Mission Vessel State of Maine, said Hanwha’s expansion in Philadelphia would generate thousands of jobs and support efforts to modernize the U.S. Navy and commercial fleet. After the Philadelphia stop, Lee is scheduled to return to Seoul, concluding a six-day trip that also included talks in Tokyo with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.
