U.S. President Donald Trump said at the White House on 25 Aug. that he had been informed of “very vicious raids on churches” carried out by South Korea’s new government and that individuals had entered a U.S. military base in the country and obtained information. “We won’t stand for that,” he told reporters in the Oval Office shortly before meeting South Korean President Lee. Trump added that the reports, which he said came from intelligence briefings, would be raised directly with Lee during their talks. He described the situation as potentially a “misunderstanding” but maintained that any confirmed intrusion on religious freedoms or breach of U.S. facilities would be “too bad” and unacceptable. Asked whether Washington might reduce its troop presence on the peninsula, Trump replied, “I don’t want to say that.”
