The government of Guyana has expressed serious concern over the threat posed by transnational organized crime and narcoterrorism in the region, specifically highlighting the 'Cartel de los Soles' from Venezuela, which the United States has designated as a terrorist organization. Guyana has called for strengthened regional cooperation to combat these criminal networks, emphasizing their threat to peace, democracy, and security in Latin America. In response, the Venezuelan government strongly rejected Guyana's position, accusing it of serving the interests of the United States and Exxon Mobil. Venezuelan officials, including Delcy Rodríguez, characterized Guyana as a pawn of U.S. Senator Marco Rubio and Washington. Meanwhile, several neighboring countries have reportedly communicated their support for efforts against the Cartel de los Soles, which is led by Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and is said to be affecting the region through narcotrafficking.
