Brown Rudnick has reached an agreement to pay nearly $8 million to settle potential claims related to its past work for Miles Guo, a convicted fraudster, in connection with his Chapter 11 bankruptcy case in Connecticut. The settlement was confirmed by both Law360 and ReutersLegal. Guo, an exiled Chinese businessman, defrauded his followers out of more than $1 billion and is scheduled to be sentenced in September. A hearing for the appointment of new counsel for Guo is currently underway in the Southern District of New York, with prospective new attorneys meeting with him in a holding cell.
