The U.S. Department of Justice has unsealed an indictment in the District of Puerto Rico charging OmegaPro founder Michael Shannon Sims and senior executive Juan Carlos Reynoso with orchestrating a global Ponzi scheme that raised more than $650 million from investors between 2019 and 2023. Prosecutors allege the pair lured thousands of victims worldwide to purchase cryptocurrency-funded “investment packages,” promising returns of 300% within 16 months from purported foreign-exchange trading by elite professionals. Marketing tactics included lavish promotional events and projecting the OmegaPro logo onto Dubai’s Burj Khalifa to convey legitimacy, investigators said. The indictment lists one count each of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering, offences that carry maximum sentences of 20 years apiece. Authorities say funds were routed through digital wallets controlled by OmegaPro insiders and later dispersed to conceal their origin. The FBI, Internal Revenue Service–Criminal Investigation and Homeland Security Investigations, together with international partners, led the probe.
