Federal Prosecutors and SEC Launch Whistleblower Leniency Programs

Federal prosecutors in Chicago have launched a new outreach effort encouraging individuals to report their own wrongdoing in exchange for leniency. This initiative is part of a broader trend, with the U.S. Attorney of New Jersey and the Southern District of Texas also introducing similar whistleblower non-prosecution pilot programs. The SEC has also intensified its crackdown on companies that restrict whistleblowers. U.S. Attorney Breon Peace announced the program for the Eastern District of New York.
