Silver Airways, a Florida-based regional airline operating flights in Florida, the Bahamas, and the Caribbean, abruptly ceased all operations on June 11, 2025. The sudden shutdown left thousands of travelers stranded at airports including Pensacola International Airport and others in Florida and the Caribbean. The airline, which had briefly served Greenville-Spartanburg (GSP) Airport in 2021, announced the halt amid an attempt to restructure under bankruptcy. Silver Airways advised customers not to go to airports and stated that passengers would be refunded. The company plans to sell its assets to an investment firm. Separately, budget airline Avelo announced on July 15, 2025, that it would be shutting down its entire West Coast operations, including ceasing service at Hollywood Burbank Airport and ending flights out of Harry Reid International Airport by August 11. Avelo cited financial challenges making it difficult to maintain service to West Coast destinations in California, Oregon, Washington, and Montana. The airline is relocating its planes to other hubs and offering California-based staff opportunities to transfer elsewhere.
