FTC Refunds Weight-Loss Supplement Buyers After False-Claim Case

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission said it will distribute more than $400,000 in refunds to thousands of consumers who bought a weight-loss supplement once promoted as a “Gastric Bypass Alternative.” The payouts stem from an enforcement action in which the agency alleged the product’s marketers made false or unsubstantiated claims about its ability to produce dramatic weight reduction. Consumers who purchased the supplement will automatically receive payments, the FTC said, though the agency did not specify a distribution timetable.
