
A significant rise in various scams has been reported globally, affecting numerous individuals and resulting in substantial financial losses. Investment scams have reached a three-year high, with 1,378 reports in 2023 and 737 in the first half of 2024 alone, with a median loss of $4,000 per victim. Romance frauds have also surged, with cases involving victims losing large sums, such as a Medway woman who was scammed out of over £120,000 and a Bengaluru woman who lost ₹6 lakh. Additionally, a former UK police officer was sentenced to six years in jail for a £44 million horse racing betting syndicate scam. Another British citizen, James Robinson, was sentenced to seven years for defrauding over a hundred investors in a $57 million Ponzi scheme. Pet fraud has also been significant, with victims losing more than £7 million over the last five years. Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
