Portugal’s Polícia Judiciária carried out multiple searches on Tuesday at Boavista Futebol Clube SAD, including a forced entry into the club’s Estádio do Bessa in Porto, as part of an investigation into suspected economic crimes. Authorities said the inquiry focuses on alleged corruption, fraudulent management, tax offences and money-laundering schemes linked to a network of companies operating in football between 2023 and late 2024. Investigators estimate that the arrangements generated about €10 million in illicit profits. Ten search warrants were executed in the Porto metropolitan area and in Viseu, leading to the seizure of financial records and computer equipment. Six individuals and corporate entities—including club officials, accountants, a law firm and an audit company—have been named as formal suspects. Boavista, national champions in 2000-01, was declared insolvent this year. Financial turmoil prevented the club from registering for Portugal’s professional divisions and relegated it to the regional leagues, intensifying scrutiny of its finances.
