Gurbir Grewal, the Director of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC) Division of Enforcement, will leave the agency on October 11, 2024. Grewal, who has been with the SEC for three years, oversaw more than 100 enforcement actions against cryptocurrency firms and other entities, resulting in over $20 billion in penalties. He will be replaced by Sanjay Wadhwa, the current Deputy Director, who will serve as Acting Director, and Sam Waldon, the Division's Chief Counsel, will serve as Acting Deputy Director. Grewal's tenure was marked by aggressive enforcement strategies, particularly targeting the fast-growing cryptocurrency industry and Wall Street firms. SEC Chairman Gary Gensler remains in his position.
