U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Commissioner Hester Peirce said the regulator "really mishandled Bitcoin exchange-traded products," acknowledging missteps in how the agency has dealt with applications tied to the cryptocurrency. Peirce made the remark on 25 June during a panel at the Bitcoin Policy Summit in Washington. Her comments provide an unusually candid assessment from within the SEC as asset managers and crypto advocates have long argued that the agency set higher hurdles for Bitcoin exchange-traded funds than for comparable products tied to other assets. Peirce, who has previously dissented from several SEC decisions on crypto products, did not specify what corrective actions the agency might take.
