The United Nations envoy for Libya, Hanaa Tetteh, has presented a 12-to-18-month roadmap aimed at breaking the country’s long-running political impasse. The plan calls for revamping the High National Election Commission, settling disputes stemming from the aborted 2021 vote, and holding nationwide elections. It also envisions the establishment of a unity government and an inclusive dialogue process to shepherd Libya toward stable institutions. Egypt’s Foreign Ministry publicly endorsed the initiative, saying adherence to the timeline is essential for the credibility of the political process and for meeting Libyans’ aspirations for stability and development. Cairo added that it will continue to back UN efforts that seek to restore security while preserving Libya’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
