Several dormant Bitcoin wallets, some inactive for over 14 years, have recently moved substantial amounts of Bitcoin, collectively worth billions of dollars. A wallet that received 10,000 BTC on April 3, 2011, at a price of $0.78 per Bitcoin, transferred the entire amount, now valued at approximately $1.09 billion, after 14.3 years of dormancy. Another wallet holding 80,009 BTC, acquired in 2011 for under $3.50 each, moved 40,000 BTC worth $4.35 billion. Additionally, a wallet dormant for 14.5 years transferred 3,962 BTC valued at $468 million, originally purchased at $0.37 per Bitcoin, including a $218 test transaction. Separately, SpaceX, owned by Elon Musk, moved 1,308 BTC worth about $153 million to a new address after three years of inactivity, marking its first on-chain Bitcoin activity since June 2022. This transfer involved cycling custody wallets without a net change in holdings, suggesting an internal reshuffle. These movements have drawn attention due to the long dormancy periods and the large volumes of Bitcoin involved, raising speculation about the intentions of early adopters and institutional holders.
