Prenetics, a publicly traded US-based healthcare and health sciences company backed by football legend David Beckham, has announced a $20 million investment in Bitcoin, acquiring approximately 187.42 BTC at an average price of $106,712 per coin. This move marks Prenetics as the first healthcare company to adopt a formal corporate Bitcoin treasury strategy. The firm utilized the Kraken platform for custody of the cryptocurrency. In addition to this initial purchase, Prenetics plans to sell its $70 million genomics business to further increase its Bitcoin holdings. The company aims to integrate Bitcoin into its consumer health platforms and accept BTC payments, signaling a pioneering step for the healthcare sector into corporate crypto reserves. Prenetics has also appointed a former OKEx COO to its board to support its new digital asset strategy.
