As of April 2025, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is reviewing 72 crypto-related exchange-traded fund (ETF) applications, including those for cryptocurrencies such as XRP, Litecoin (LTC), Solana (SOL), Dogecoin (DOGE), and others like Penguins (PENGU) and Melania Trump-themed ETFs. These applications cover both spot ETFs and derivatives, reflecting a broad institutional interest in expanding crypto exposure through regulated investment vehicles. Bitcoin ETFs currently dominate the crypto fund assets, accounting for approximately 90%, and are expected to maintain an 80-85% market share despite the influx of altcoin and memecoin ETF proposals. The SEC approval process is ongoing, with some ETF filers required to re-file updated applications, suggesting that approvals could be forthcoming soon. The pending ETFs could potentially bring billions of dollars in traditional market capital into various cryptocurrencies, enhancing liquidity and price stability.
...21 of 53 ETF share class filers left to re-file after Harbor, SBH, Thornburg, Impax, Madison Funds, and Shelton Funds submitted their updated applications. I expect we will tick down to zero soon and SEC approval will come not long thereafter.
