The Banco de México (Banxico) commemorated its 100th anniversary on August 25, 2025, marking a century since the promulgation of its Organic Law in 1925. The centennial celebrations included a ceremonial event led by President Claudia Sheinbaum, who highlighted Banxico's role as a guardian of economic stability and sovereignty in Mexico. Sheinbaum emphasized the importance of controlling inflation as a social act that protects lower-income households and called for expanding credit to families, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and entrepreneurs. To honor the milestone, Banxico issued a limited-edition silver commemorative coin with a face value of 10 pesos, containing two ounces of 0.999 fine silver, available for purchase at the Casa de la Moneda and the Museo Interactivo de Economía. Additionally, special commemorative banknotes featuring the legend "100 Aniversario 1925-2025" were released and are valid for legal transactions. The central bank's achievements include maintaining inflation levels closer to permanent targets, reflecting its commitment to price stability. The centenary event also featured the unveiling of a plaque recognizing 100 years of service and commitment to Mexico. Banxico's autonomy and clarity in policy have been noted as hard-earned accomplishments that should be preserved. The celebrations were broadcast live, engaging the public in the institution's century-long legacy.
