Grupo Financiero Banorte is evaluating strategic options for its digital bank Bineo, which it launched just over a year ago. The bank is reportedly unprofitable, leading Banorte to consider either selling or merging Bineo within its financial group. Concurrently, Banorte is revisiting the potential acquisition of Banamex, the former retail banking unit of Citigroup in Mexico, which was separated last year. Banorte's CEO, Marcos Ramírez, emphasized that the group continuously analyzes market opportunities but final decisions rest with the shareholders. In recent communications with investors, Ramírez confirmed that Banorte will explore options including the possible purchase of Banamex.
