Mexican federal forces have arrested José Luis Sánchez Valencia, known as “Chalamán,” in Colima on a U.S. provisional warrant for narcotics trafficking and criminal conspiracy. Authorities describe Sánchez Valencia as a principal operator of the Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación and a relative of the cartel’s leader, Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, or “El Mencho.” The capture followed an intelligence-sharing operation with U.S. agencies that pinpointed the suspect’s movements in the Colima–Villa de Álvarez metropolitan area. Agents intercepted him on Avenida Benito Juárez and executed the warrant aimed at his extradition to the United States. The joint operation involved personnel from the Fiscalía General de la República’s Agency of Criminal Investigation, the Navy, Army, National Guard, Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, and the National Intelligence Center. Sánchez Valencia was transferred to federal custody as Mexican and U.S. authorities prepare formal extradition proceedings.
