Authorities in Mexico City have arrested 13 individuals linked to the May 20 killings of Ximena Guzmán and José Muñoz, two close collaborators of Mexico City Mayor Clara Brugada. The arrests followed an extensive investigation involving 11 raids across Mexico City and the State of Mexico, coordinated by local and federal security forces including the Mexico City Security Secretariat and the federal Security and Citizen Protection Secretariat (SSPC). Among the detainees, three are identified as directly involved in the homicides, while six participated actively in the crime. The operation revealed that the attack was meticulously planned, involving at least five vehicles and coordination that began in the Iztacalco borough and extended to Ecatepec in the State of Mexico. Despite these arrests, the gunman who fired the fatal shots remains at large, and the motive behind the double homicide has not yet been confirmed. The investigation continues with multiple lines of inquiry. Additionally, a separate federal operation targeting arms trafficking resulted in the detention of 14 alleged members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) in Jalisco, Nayarit, and the State of Mexico, including their presumed leader Héctor Agustín Díaz, alias “El Cachorro.” This crackdown on organized crime is part of ongoing efforts to combat violence and criminal activity in the region. A hearing is scheduled for one of the detainees in connection with the Brugada collaborators’ murders.
