Arístides Rodrigo Guerrero García, the minister-elect of Mexico's Supreme Court of Justice (SCJN), was involved in a car accident on the night of August 22, 2025, in Churubusco, Mexico City. The collision with another vehicle resulted in Guerrero sustaining fractures to his thorax and nose, injuries that required surgical intervention. Following the accident, he was hospitalized and reported to be in stable condition with a positive prognosis for recovery. Initially, there was an expectation that Guerrero would be able to take his oath of office on September 1, 2025. However, the Mexican Senate has granted a postponement for his formal swearing-in, as Guerrero remains in recovery. The Senate president ruled out the possibility of Guerrero taking his oath virtually. Despite the delay in the official ceremony, Guerrero has stated his intention to begin his duties on the scheduled date. In a separate development, José Víctor Guerrero, former Secretary of Education of Sonora during Claudia Pavlovich's administration, was detained on August 28, 2025, in Hermosillo and transferred to a correctional facility. Additionally, Melquiades Alarcón Caro, former mayor of Las Minas (2018-2021), and his son were killed in a shooting attack on a highway in Veracruz, where their vehicle sustained over 40 bullet impacts.
