Andrés Manuel López Beltrán, secretary of organization for the Morena party and son of Mexico's president, spent approximately 177,000 Mexican pesos during a 14-day stay at The Okura Tokyo, one of Japan's top hotels. Among his expenses, a single dinner at the hotel's Teppanyaki restaurant, Sazanka, cost over 47,000 pesos. These expenditures reportedly exceeded the biweekly salary of Morena's Executive Committee secretaries in 2023, which was 43,957 pesos. The details were revealed through invoices obtained by Aristegui Noticias. Additionally, the reported expenses do not include those of his companions, including Morena deputy Daniel Asaf, a former aide to López Obrador. Meanwhile, Sergio Gutiérrez Luna, president of the Mexican Chamber of Deputies, defended his own luxury lifestyle and assets, stating they were legally declared and acquired through his private sector career. The revelations have sparked discussions about the source of funds for such high levels of spending among Morena officials.
