Gerardo Fernández Noroña, president of the Mexican Senate Board, confirmed the purchase of a 12 million peso house in Tepoztlán, Morelos. He stated the property, which spans approximately 1,200 square meters, was acquired through a personal loan with an interest rate exceeding 30%, amounting to around four million pesos in interest. Fernández Noroña said he began repaying the mortgage at the end of 2024 using his Senate salary and income from his YouTube channel. He emphasized that his entire declared patrimony is public and the result of his work, denying any illicit financial links. The senator challenged critics to investigate his finances and contrasted his transparency with accusations from the press, including an unfounded claim he made against journalist Azucena Uresti. Ricardo Monreal, coordinator of Morena deputies, defended Fernández Noroña, urging not to "satanize" the acquisition and affirming trust in his explanation. Monreal also called on Morena members to uphold the party's principles of republican austerity. Analysts noted that purchasing a 12 million peso home would require monthly payments of up to 110,000 pesos and proof of income around 185,000 pesos, figures well above the national average. It was also highlighted that Infonavit credit limits would not suffice for such a purchase.
