SK Telecom has suspended new subscriber sign-ups and number portability services at its approximately 2,600 T World stores nationwide starting May 5, 2025, due to a USIM (subscriber identity module) information leak. The company will focus on USIM replacement services and has pledged to compensate stores for lost sales. The Personal Information Protection Commission has ordered SK Telecom to promptly notify affected customers and conduct a thorough system investigation. The breach has also led to a rise in smishing (SMS phishing) scams exploiting the incident, prompting warnings from the Korea Communications Commission. As of May 3, SK Telecom reported 1,714 users enrolled in its USIM protection service and 920,000 users who have replaced their USIMs. Meanwhile, the part-time job platform Albamon suffered a cyberattack resulting in the leak of 22,473 personal resume records, including names, phone numbers, and email addresses. The government has launched an investigation into the Albamon breach. Additionally, the Everest hacking group has claimed cyberattacks on UAE's Air Arabia, exfiltrating 18,955 personal records and 14 GB of confidential data, and on Saudi Arabia's Jamjoom Pharma, extracting 1,445 personal records and 4.8 GB of company data, both with ransom deadlines set for May 6, 2025. Egypt's National Social Insurance Authority was also reportedly breached by the threat actor 'J27DN,' with over 107,000 citizen records allegedly stolen on April 27, 2025. Ascension has disclosed a data breach potentially linked to the Cleo hack. Authorities have warned of increasing phishing scams related to these incidents, urging vigilance and reporting of suspicious activities.
