The United Nations has reported that Gaza currently has the world’s largest population of amputees, many of whom are children injured in the ongoing conflict with Israel. Since the war began in October 2023, at least 4,700 new amputations have been recorded, adding to approximately 2,000 amputees from previous conflicts, bringing the total to around 6,700. The enclave faces severe challenges in providing treatment and rehabilitation due to dwindling medical resources. Hospitals are overwhelmed, with reports of six injured children sharing a single hospital bed. The humanitarian crisis extends to education, with 97% of Gaza’s schools damaged by Israeli attacks. Amid these hardships, orphaned children recently held a graduation ceremony at the al-Wafaa Orphan Village in Khan Younis, highlighting the ongoing impact of the conflict on Gaza’s youth.
