UN Rights Office Calls Israel’s East Jerusalem Settlement Illegal

The United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights on 15 August condemned Israel’s decision to advance a new housing settlement in occupied East Jerusalem, calling the plan “an illegal move” under international law. The agency warned that the project could lead to the forcible eviction of Palestinian residents from the area and said such displacement would constitute “a war crime.” It urged the Israeli authorities to cancel the initiative and abide by their obligations in the occupied territories.
