The Atlanta Braves dropped a 4–0 decision to the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday despite another dominant outing from right-hander Grant Holmes. The 28-year-old struck out 10 and scattered three hits and three walks over six shutout innings, leaving with the game scoreless. Atlanta’s bullpen surrendered four runs in the eighth, and the offense went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position, handing the club its fifth loss in six games. Holmes generated 27 swings and misses on 106 pitches, the most by any Braves pitcher other than Spencer Strider since pitch tracking began in 2008. The performance gave him two starts this season with at least 25 whiffs, a feat matched only by Detroit’s reigning AL Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal. Three outings earlier, Holmes fanned a career-high 15 over 6⅓ innings against Colorado. Atlanta has fallen to fourth place in the National League East after losing three of the first four games on its current homestand. Manager Brian Snitker, visibly frustrated, suggested the club’s hitters may be overwhelmed by mechanical data and video analysis, saying the game has become “too mental.” The Braves are 6-11 in Holmes’s starts this year despite his 2.70 ERA over his last 10 outings.
