Chicago Cubs center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong homered twice and drove in three runs as the Cubs beat the Minnesota Twins 8–1 on Thursday in Minneapolis. The two blasts gave the 22-year-old 25 home runs and 25 stolen bases on the season, making him only the third player in Major League Baseball history to reach the 25-25 mark before the All-Star break. The feat was previously accomplished by Bobby Bonds in 1973 and Eric Davis in 1987. Crow-Armstrong went 3-for-4, scoring three times in his 92nd game of the year. The performance marked his fifth multi-homer game and solidified his case as a National League Most Valuable Player candidate in his first full season. Colin Rea scattered three hits over seven innings to move to 7-3, while Twins starter Chris Paddack fell to 3-8 after surrendering six runs in five innings. Chicago avoided a sweep and heads to New York for a three-game series against the Yankees on Friday; Minnesota hosts Pittsburgh the same night.
