San Francisco Giants center fielder Jung Hoo Lee delivered a remarkable defensive play described as the "catch of the decade" during the team's 7-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays at Oracle Park on August 17, 2025. The catch, notable for Lee's use of his knees, garnered widespread acclaim, including praise from Giants manager Bob Melvin, who remarked that he had "haven't seen that before." The game also featured strong pitching from Logan Webb and 11 hits by the Giants. However, the Giants subsequently struggled against the San Diego Padres, losing the series 3-1. A particularly detrimental fifth inning contributed to an 8-4 loss on August 21, 2025, marking one of the team's worst stretches in the season. Despite the team's challenges, Lee extended his season-best hitting streak to 10 games. The Giants won only three of their 13 games against the Padres this season and appeared outmatched in various aspects during their series at Petco Park.
