Amazon MGM Studios has selected Sony Pictures Entertainment as its overseas distribution partner under a multi-year agreement that will cover four high-profile releases through March 2026. The pact begins with Luca Guadagnino’s psychological thriller “After the Hunt,” starring Julia Roberts, which will debut at the Venice Film Festival before a limited U.S. launch on Oct. 10 and wider domestic rollout on Oct. 17. Sony will also handle the international theatrical releases of Timur Bekmambetov’s sci-fi crime drama “Mercy” (Jan. 23), Bart Layton’s heist saga “Crime 101” (Feb. 13), and Phil Lord and Christopher Miller’s space adventure “Project Hail Mary” (Mar. 20). The arrangement replaces Amazon MGM’s expiring distribution relationship with Warner Bros. and gives the studio time to establish its own network of foreign offices. Once that infrastructure is in place, Amazon MGM plans to distribute future titles directly in select territories while continuing to rely on Sony in markets where it has no presence. The deal does not affect the next James Bond installment, whose overseas rights remain with Universal.
