Warner Bros.’ original horror title “Weapons” continued its stout run in North American cinemas, generating an estimated $15.6 million from 3,631 locations over the weekend ended Aug. 24. The third-frame haul, off just 36 % from the prior session, lifted domestic ticket sales to about $115.9 million, according to industry estimates. Overseas audiences added roughly $13.2 million, bringing the international total to $83.5 million and placing global receipts at $199.4 million—within striking distance of the $200 million mark. Premium IMAX screens have contributed $16.3 million to date. The picture was produced for around $38 million, underscoring its profitability for the studio. Holdovers dominated an otherwise quiet weekend. Universal/DreamWorks Animation’s “The Bad Guys 2” collected $5.1 million domestically for a $66.2 million cumulative, while Universal’s action sequel “Nobody 2” tumbled 60 % to $3.7 million, pushing its North American total to $16.6 million and worldwide earnings to $28.1 million. A24’s re-issue of “Ne Zha 2” added $1.55 million, taking the animated film’s combined domestic gross to $22.4 million. Among earlier summer tentpoles, Warner Bros.’ “Superman” reached $347 million domestic and $604.5 million globally after a $3.4 million weekend, and Universal’s “Jurassic World Rebirth” rose to $335.6 million domestic following a $2.1 million take.
