Warner Bros. Pictures will release James Gunn’s “Superman” on premium video-on-demand platforms on Friday, Aug. 15, only 35 days after the film’s July 11 theatrical debut. The studio said the superhero reboot will remain in cinemas for a limited time while making its home-viewing bow across major digital retailers including Amazon and Apple. The unusually short theatrical window underlines Hollywood’s increasingly aggressive pivot to digital revenue. A physical edition of the film, featuring 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD formats, is scheduled for Sept. 23. “Superman” has generated an estimated $332.4 million in North America and $248.7 million overseas for a $581.1 million global haul through Monday. Analysts expect the picture to finish between $620 million and $640 million against an estimated $225 million production budget, making it the highest-grossing Superman film ever domestically and the top-earning superhero release of 2025 to date. The digital package will include an hour-long making-of documentary, director’s commentary by Gunn, a gag reel and deleted scenes, along with featurettes on the film’s score, villain Lex Luthor and the return of the Daily Planet.
