
Colorado Gov. Polis Declares Disaster Emergency as Crosho Fire Evacuates Routt County; Elk Fire Destroys Homes; NM Gov. Lujan Grisham Declares Crime Emergency
The Crosho Fire, which began in Rio Blanco County, Colorado, has expanded eastward into Routt County, prompting evacuation orders for residents and livestock. The fire is burning in the Routt National Forest, threatening local ranchers and communities. Two homes and two outbuildings were destroyed in the nearby Elk Fire in Rio Blanco County, including the home of 87-year-old Bob Kydd. Efforts are underway to support those affected by the Lee, Elk, and Crosho fires. In response to the worsening fire conditions and critical fire weather, Colorado Governor Jared Polis declared a disaster emergency for the Crosho Fire. Separately, New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham declared a state of emergency in Rio Arriba County due to a surge in crime and drug-related violence.
