Northern Oklahoma and parts of northern Texas have experienced scattered showers and thunderstorms since late July 31, 2025, with hazards including brief heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and cloud-to-ground lightning. Showers gradually dissipated on the morning of August 1 but redevelopment was possible in southern Oklahoma and north Texas. Thunderstorms tracked eastward along the Red River, moving from Texas counties into southcentral and southeast Oklahoma, producing heavy rainfall and strong winds up to 50 mph. Localized flooding was a concern due to heavy rainfall rates, though no severe storms were expected initially. Rain and isolated storms persisted in southeast Oklahoma through August 2, with a storm complex expected to enter western Oklahoma late that night, bringing damaging winds. Cooler temperatures accompanied increased chances of showers and thunderstorms into Sunday, August 3, particularly across western and northern Oklahoma. A slight risk for severe storms was declared for western Oklahoma and western north Texas from the night of August 2 into the morning of August 3, with damaging winds and large hail as the primary hazards. Tornado warnings were issued for multiple counties in Colorado, Oklahoma, and Texas during this period. A severe thunderstorm watch was in effect for parts of Oklahoma and Texas until 6 a.m. CDT on August 3. Strong to severe storms moved from Kansas into northwest Oklahoma early on August 3, with damaging wind gusts and potential large hail.
