Independence Day weather is splitting the nation, with dangerous heat stretching from the Upper Midwest to the Carolinas, tropical downpours targeting Florida, and unusually comfortable conditions across much of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. National Weather Service offices in Minneapolis–St. Paul, Milwaukee and Chicago warn that heat index readings will climb into the mid- to upper-90s on 4 July and again on Saturday, briefly touching 100 °F in parts of Minnesota and Wisconsin. Residents are advised to limit time outdoors, stay hydrated and monitor late-day thunderstorm chances that could interrupt holiday events. In Central Florida, the FOX 35 Storm Team has declared a Weather Impact Day as showers and strong storms linked to Invest 92L, a weak low-pressure area about 100 miles east of Jacksonville, move ashore. The National Hurricane Center gives the system a 60 percent chance of becoming a tropical or subtropical depression within a week. Forecasters expect multiple rounds of heavy rain through the weekend, totaling 3–6 inches, with the greatest downpour risk between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. The unsettled weather threatens outdoor festivities and could add delays at Orlando International Airport, which anticipates more than 1.4 million passengers this holiday week. Farther north, a dome of high pressure is delivering a rare reprieve from midsummer humidity. Philadelphia, Washington and Boston are seeing blue skies, light winds and highs in the low- to mid-80s—ideal for parades and evening fireworks. Forecast offices expect the pleasant stretch to last through Saturday before heat and scattered storms return late in the weekend.
Happy Independence Day! Stay hydrated when celebrating outside today. Highs will be a little above normal with Heat Index values slightly above the actual temperatures. Most locations will be dry, but an isolated ridge top shower or thunderstorm is possible. #ncwx #scwx #gawx https://t.co/Vfcg34i8cX
