Non-profit groups are stepping in to provide small but meaningful relief to families caught up in the devastating 4 July flash floods that swept through Camp Mystic and other parts of Central Texas, leaving at least 120 people dead and more than 160 missing. The Lost Stuffy Project, founded by child-life specialist Randi Jaffe after last year’s California wildfires, has received requests from roughly 15 Texas families seeking help to locate or replace stuffed animals left behind during evacuations or rescues. The group pays for overnight shipping of matching toys sourced online and works with keepsake maker Budsies to create replicas when originals cannot be found, all funded by donations. A separate charity, Land of Lovies, founded by Texas mother Ashley Reckdenwald, has fielded inquiries from at least four additional families and similarly covers the cost of replacing lost comfort items within a week. Both organisations say the familiar toys are helping children—and in some cases grieving parents—cope with the trauma of the floods.
