The U.S. National Hurricane Center said Tuesday that a tropical depression could form in the Gulf of Mexico within the next couple of days as a broad area of low pressure brings heavy rain across Florida and moves toward the northern Gulf Coast. Forecasters warned that the system’s gradual organization may lead to sustained winds reaching tropical-depression strength before it nears the coast, raising the risk of flash flooding in parts of Florida, Alabama and Mississippi. Residents are advised to monitor updated advisories and prepare for possible tropical-storm conditions later this week.
