A severe windstorm swept through the Las Vegas Valley on July 1, 2025, bringing gusts of up to 70 mph that caused widespread damage and power outages. The National Weather Service issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning and a Dust Storm Warning as visibility dropped to less than a quarter mile in some areas due to intense dust storms. The storm toppled nearly 50 to over 60 power poles, particularly along Tropicana Avenue and Jones Boulevard, resulting in power outages for more than 30,000 NV Energy customers at the peak. The damage also included downed power lines, uprooted trees, damaged traffic signals, and blocked roads. Flight delays and cancellations occurred as the storm affected the Las Vegas airport and city infrastructure. Cleanup and repair efforts have been ongoing since the storm, with about 1,100 customers still without power as of July 3, mainly around Tropicana Avenue and Jones Boulevard. NV Energy expects to complete repairs by Friday afternoon. Portions of the eastern Las Vegas Valley, including a nearly 1.5-mile stretch of East Tropicana Avenue, remain closed due to storm damage. Dashcam footage captured power poles collapsing onto streets and vehicles during the storm. Officials continue to monitor weather conditions as additional storm activity was expected following the initial event.
