Severe weather conditions have been affecting parts of the Midwest from July 9 to July 11, 2025, with scattered showers, thunderstorms, and heavy rainfall reported across Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, and northern Missouri. Initial forecasts warned of locally heavy rainfall exceeding two inches, wind gusts over 40 mph, and potential flash flooding, particularly near and north of Interstate 80. On July 10, storms intensified in northwest Illinois and the Chicago metropolitan area, bringing damaging winds, large hail, and localized flooding, especially west of the Fox Valley. By July 11, the threat escalated with an increased risk of tornadoes in the Corn Belt region, including southeast Iowa, north central Illinois, and potentially Chicago, driven by backed easterly winds enhancing low-level helicity. Tornado warnings were issued for Ottumwa and north of Davenport, Iowa, as supercells with strong rotation and a double-barreled bow echo with extreme winds moved through the area. A tornado watch was in effect for eastern Iowa, Wisconsin, and the Chicago area. The severe weather system posed risks of damaging winds, tornadoes, and flash flooding throughout the affected regions.
