Firefighters contained a four-alarm blaze that ripped through a commercial warehouse on East 8th Street in Oakland late Friday afternoon, the Fourth of July. The Oakland Fire Department said the alarm was upgraded shortly after the first call at 4:55 p.m. and drew about 75 firefighters. The flames spread to an adjacent building and ignited several parked vehicles, including an RV, before crews brought the fire under control. No injuries were immediately reported. Roughly four hours later, the Orange County Fire Authority mobilised a second-alarm response to a separate commercial structure fire on the 7100 block of Kelton Way in Stanton, about 30 miles south-east of Los Angeles. Officials did not report any casualties as crews worked through the night to prevent the blaze from reaching neighbouring properties.
