President Donald Trump on Monday criticized former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie over the 2013 George Washington Bridge lane-closure scandal, saying Christie "is a slob" and "got away with murder." Speaking in the Oval Office, Trump said he had long believed Christie was "guilty" of wrongdoing connected to the episode, in which lanes leading to the bridge were shut down, snarling traffic for hours. Asked whether his administration would pursue a new investigation, Trump replied that he would leave the matter to the Justice Department. “If they want to look at it, they can,” he said, adding that he personally thinks "we have other things to do." Trump also alleged that Christie had shifted blame to subordinates, noting that other individuals "went to jail" while the former governor avoided charges.
