Fox Corp. and Google-owned YouTube TV are locked in a carriage dispute that could see all Fox-owned broadcast and cable networks pulled from the streaming pay-TV service if the sides fail to reach a new distribution deal by 5 p.m. Eastern on Wednesday, Aug. 27. Channels at risk include the Fox broadcast network and local stations, Fox News, Fox Business, Fox Weather, FS1, FS2, Big Ten Network and Fox Deportes. A blackout would land days before Fox airs marquee college-football matchups such as Texas–Ohio State and shortly ahead of the NFL’s opening Sunday, potentially leaving YouTube TV’s 9.4 million subscribers without local NFL games or MLB playoff coverage. YouTube said in a customer notice that Fox is demanding "payments that are far higher than what partners with comparable content offerings receive," and pledged a $10 monthly credit if the networks go dark. Fox countered that Google is exploiting its "outsized influence" and urged subscribers to pressure YouTube to engage "in a meaningful way." The spat follows a string of high-profile U.S. carriage battles as cord-cutting accelerates. Earlier this year YouTube TV nearly dropped Paramount Global channels before a last-minute accord, and Fox recently introduced Fox One, a $20-per-month direct-to-consumer package that could cushion any revenue hit if negotiations collapse.
