New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel was briefly engulfed in a sideline melee during a joint practice with the Minnesota Vikings in Eagan, Minn., on Thursday. Attempting to separate players after tempers flared late in the session, the former linebacker tumbled to the turf and was momentarily pinned beneath several players before order was restored. No injuries were reported, and practice resumed after coaches on both teams intervened. Vrabel downplayed the incident afterward and instead highlighted the performance of second-year quarterback Drake Maye, praising the signal-caller’s composure under heavy pass-rush pressure. Maye extended several plays and connected on multiple deep passes despite persistent breakdowns along an inexperienced left side of the offensive line. The Patriots and Vikings will hold a second joint workout Friday ahead of their preseason Week 2 game on Saturday.
